Streaming platform HBO Max will premiere the first episode of its new Harry Potter television series adaptation on Christmas Day, December 25, 2026.

The eight-episode inaugural season will run weekly into the new year, concluding with its season finale on Valentine's Day, February 14, 2027.

The first season adapts J.K. Rowling's debut novel, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, bringing the magical universe to television. HBO described the festive release schedule as a holiday gift for fans of the franchise.

The platform confirmed the full broadcast schedule for all eight episodes of season one:

  • Episode 1: December 25, 2026
  • Episode 2: January 3, 2027
  • Episode 3: January 10, 2027
  • Episode 4: January 17, 2027
  • Episode 5: January 24, 2027
  • Episode 6: January 31, 2027
  • Episode 7: February 7, 2027
  • Episode 8: February 14, 2027

Season two renewal and cast

Production has confirmed a second season renewal, demonstrating a long-term commitment to the new television adaptation. The second season will adapt the second novel, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, with filming scheduled to start in autumn 2026.

Dominic McLaughlin stars in the title role of Harry Potter, alongside Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. The central trio is supported by a main cast featuring John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, and Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape.

The series aims to offer a broader and more faithful adaptation of the original books by J.K. Rowling. By covering each novel across several seasons, the production plans to explore the story in greater depth.

Anniversary cinema re-release in Spain

Ahead of the television series debut, the original feature film Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone is returning to cinemas across Spain to mark its 25th anniversary.

The anniversary screenings will run from August 28 to September 1, 2026, coinciding with Back to Hogwarts celebrations. Screenings will feature previously unreleased behind-the-scenes footage projected alongside the original movie.

Directed by Chris Columbus and starring Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint, the film returns to Spanish screens more than two decades after its original release. Distributor Warner Bros. announced that tickets are currently on sale at participating cinemas, with a complete venue list published online.
