A new Harry Potter television series produced by HBO Max is generating excitement among fans of the franchise, known as Potterheads, ahead of its December 25 premiere. CNN Brasil spoke to several fans at the Bienal do Livro de São Paulo, a major book fair held in the city, to gauge expectations for the new adaptation.
One fan interviewed, identified only as Nadima, said she had a positive view of the project. She said many young people today recognize the name Harry Potter but have never watched the films or closely followed the saga.
She said a new perspective with new characters could appeal more to younger viewers, who might then come to enjoy the original films as well.
Fans see a chance to revisit the saga
Wagner, another fan at the event, said he shared the same enthusiasm. He said this was the moment for the production to show more of the books both to longtime followers and to a new generation, who he believes will enjoy the series.
He also said he was eagerly awaiting the production.
One season per book
The Harry Potter series is scheduled to premiere on December 25. The plan is to dedicate an entire season to each book in the saga, allowing for a deeper exploration of the characters and the wizarding world created by British author J.K. Rowling.
The books, first published beginning in 1997, follow the young wizard Harry Potter and his friends at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and were previously adapted into a film series released between 2001 and 2011. HBO Max is the streaming service owned by Warner Bros. Discovery.
The Bienal do Livro de São Paulo, where the fans were interviewed, is one of the largest book fairs in Latin America and draws large crowds of readers each year.
