Harper, 9, finds uncle's wedding ring lost 10 years ago

Nine-year-old Harper found her uncle Steven Meyer's wedding ring that had been lost 10 years ago in Lake Belle Taine, Minnesota, Pioneer Press reported. The discovery occurred after drought conditions lowered the water level, making the lake bed easier to see from the shore.

Meyer lost the ring a decade ago while swimming with his son at the lake, where the family owns a small home. His mother-in-law, Malana Johansen, who owns the house, said the family spent a lot of time digging through the sand and even used a large magnet provided by a neighbor, but they were unable to locate it.

Discovery at Lake Belle Taine

On July 20, 2026, Johansen's granddaughter Harper visited her for the first time. Standing on the shore to look at the lake, the girl noticed a small shiny object in the water, which turned out to be Meyer's lost ring.

Johansen said the ring remained in excellent condition. Meyer now wears two wedding rings, including the old one and the one he bought later.

Other lost ring recoveries

In Canada, diver Nate McLagan, who searches for lost items in water for free, previously found the wedding ring of American Jeff Douglaris. Douglaris lost the jewelry when he jumped into a lake from a cliff.
