Greek television presenter Giorgos Liagkas and former reality show participant Stathis Schizas have engaged in a fierce public dispute over legal action taken against the production company of Survivor Greece. The conflict follows comments regarding former contestant Stavros Floros and his ongoing court battle with the media firm behind the show.
Liagkas launched a stern rebuke against Schizas during a live broadcast of his morning show To Proino on Wednesday, September 23. The presenter called Schizas an idiot after the former contestant suggested that ex-participants should not bite the hand that feeds them. Schizas responded quickly on social media, accusing Liagkas of television hypocrisy and exploiting another person's pain to boost viewer ratings.
Broadcast dispute
The disagreement began after Schizas commented on the legal battle initiated by Floros, who suffered a severe injury during his time on the reality competition that resulted in the loss of his leg. Schizas noted that while what happened to Floros was very sad and something he would not wish on his enemy, he did not believe that acting with intense anger toward the production company would produce a positive outcome.
Speaking in informal terms, Schizas stated that people should not bite the hand that feeds them. He argued that contestants had earned substantial sums of money from Survivor and from television game shows produced by the company, concluding that there was no reason for former players to launch attacks against the firm.
Upon hearing those statements, Liagkas reacted strongly during the live broadcast of To Proino on Wednesday, September 23. Addressing the audience, the host questioned why individuals who stand out often act like idiots, explicitly applying the description to Schizas. Although Liagkas apologized shortly afterward for using the term idiocy, he maintained that a naive person cannot be a role model and argued that such declarations make someone dangerous.
Liagkas expressed anger that Schizas would make such comments after receiving money from producer Acun Ilicali, while speaking about a young man who lost his leg. The presenter also mentioned that Floros had sent him graphic photographs of his accident. Show co-hosts Dimitris Ouggarezos and Fotini Petrogianni likewise voiced their disagreement with Schizas during the program.
Social media response
Schizas issued a swift response through a series of posts on Instagram Stories to clarify his position and counter the presenter's remarks. Referring to television host Stamatina Tsimtsili, Schizas said she was right to disagree with him within a purely journalistic framework, though he noted that his original statements were broadcast in edited form.
Schizas explained that his phrase about not biting the hand that feeds was directed at various former contestants who had recently come forward to judge the production company, rather than at Floros personally. He added that most of those former participants would readily return to play Survivor again if given the opportunity.
Focusing his criticism on Liagkas, Schizas accused the host of staging a performance of ancient tragedy on air. He alleged that Liagkas uses the suffering of Floros at every opportunity, while claiming to be his friend, simply to generate higher television ratings in the same way he has handled numerous other cases in the past.
Accusations and legal context
Schizas further accused the presenter of sadistically displaying a very graphic photograph of Floros's injury to shock the viewing public as part of a familiar habit. He dismissed Liagkas's on-air apology as an attempt to cover himself, comparing it to a killer who apologizes after the crime while the victim does not return, and describing the presenter's entire broadcast style as hypocrisy.
Addressing the legal aspect of the dispute, Schizas noted that contracts signed by contestants explicitly state that whatever happens to participants remains exclusively their own responsibility. However, he stated that he would also have taken legal action if he were in Floros's position, adding that he continues to take the side of Floros.
Schizas concluded by noting that when he previously spoke to journalist Nikos Evaggelatos about the matter, Floros was still posing for photographs embracing producer Acun Ilicali and had not yet filed his lawsuit against the production company.
