Former Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Garcia-Margallo criticized Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez's government over the crisis in Ceuta during an appearance on El Cascabel.
Garcia-Margallo expressed deep concern over Spanish foreign policy, stating that current management has led to extreme weakness and severe isolation in the international arena.
He argued that foreign policy should be a state policy serving the nation rather than the personal interests of the prime minister. He added that erratic executive decisions stem from preparing a future exit for Sanchez within the Socialist International.
According to the former minister, Morocco always senses weakness in neighboring governments. He described the situation in Ceuta not as a migration problem, but as a sovereignty issue and a planned invasion, adding that a country is not respected if it does not respect itself.
Spain's Position in International Alliances
The former Popular Party leader lamented that Spain is increasingly isolated within the European Union, citing its absence from key informal meetings regarding the future of Europe. He also pointed to a lukewarm response from the Atlantic Alliance when Spain requested solidarity from partners.
Garcia-Margallo criticized the government for failing to utilize the Crown, calling its diplomatic role fundamental, especially regarding relations with Morocco. He also noted that he would have preferred greater determination from his own party in demanding accountability and showing empathy to the citizens of Ceuta.
He stated that the situation was entirely predictable because the government relies on support from forces that want to destroy Spain. He concluded that it is picturesque for a country to experience an invasion without any accountability from public services or the executive branch.
