Foreign visitor arrivals to Russia increased by 7.5 percent in 2026 compared to the same period in 2025, driven largely by Chinese travelers.
The growth figures were published in a Central Bank of Russia economic report titled Regional Economy: Comments of the Main Directorates, which was reviewed by news outlet Lenta.ru.
According to the document, visitors from China accounted for more than half of the total foreign tourist flow into the country during the period. Central bank analysts stated that tourist arrivals from China have continued to expand as a result of a visa-free entry regime introduced in December 2025.
The Central Bank of Russia, headquartered in Moscow, functions as the country's main monetary authority and financial regulator. Its regional directorates regularly monitor economic activity, consumer spending trends, and service industry performance across federal territories.
Surge in Tourism Service Demand
The expansion in foreign and domestic visitor numbers contributed to higher overall demand for hospitality and leisure services. The volume of tourist services in Russia grew by 1.4 percent during the second quarter of 2026.
China and Russia share a long land border across Eurasia. Bilateral movement between the two countries has expanded alongside cross-border transport routes, commercial cooperation, and simplified entry protocols for tour groups and business travelers.

The latest arrival statistics follow earlier findings on international tourism preferences, in which Hungarian travelers highlighted the Golden Ring region and Lake Baikal as their favorite travel destinations within Russia.
The Golden Ring is a famous historic tourist route northeast of Moscow. It connects several ancient Russian towns that are renowned for their medieval kremlins, historic monasteries, and traditional architecture.
Lake Baikal, situated in eastern Siberia, is recognized globally as the deepest and oldest freshwater lake on Earth. The UNESCO World Heritage site is a major destination for nature tourism, known for its scenic shoreline and unique freshwater species.
