Greek songwriter Foivos Delivorias has paid tribute to singer Giorgos Mazonakis in a personal Facebook post describing his shock at the loss.
Delivorias wrote that the ground felt as though it moved beneath his feet when he first reacted to the news. However, he noted that this initial response quickly gave way to a memory that captured the singer's character, recalling that whenever the two artists worked or spent time together, there was no solid ground under them at all.
The songwriter remembered the moments they shared in both work and social settings, focusing on the unique talent of Mazonakis and the distinct identity he brought to every song he performed.

Delivorias noted that this individual artistic gift kept Mazonakis away from boredom, acoustic uniformity, and the repetitive lyricism that had replaced traditional popular song long before artificial intelligence arrived.
In his post, Delivorias also shared a personal habit that Mazonakis maintained prior to recording sessions. He stated that just before stepping into the studio, the singer would quietly say a short, private prayer of his own.
The songwriter observed that even when a lyricist failed to provide Mazonakis with a major work, the singer would give the material wings and elevate it straight into the firmament.
