Actress Eugenia Samara has traveled to Mexico City alongside Nikos Moutsinas and Konstantinos Dedes, sharing photos and details of her journey on Instagram.
Selecting a location different from her usual summer destinations, the group picked the Mexican capital as the first stop of their trip. Samara posted a photo album and video on Friday, August 7, outlining her impressions alongside information on the history and culture of the region.
History and sinking of Mexico City
Writing in her social media post titled Mexico Diary Part One, Mexico City, Samara explained that the capital was built on top of Tenochtitlan, the ancient Aztec capital. She noted that the city faces a severe issue, sinking 10 centimeters every year because of soft soil from a former lake and the over-extraction of groundwater.
Experts have been brought in to find a resolution, but Samara stated that the sinking unfortunately continues. She added that the central square, known as the Zocalo, is one of the largest public squares in the world and is projected to sink within the next 20 years. Located at an altitude of approximately 2,240 meters, Mexico City ranks among the highest capital cities globally.
National Museum of Anthropology highlights
Samara also documented her visit to the National Museum of Anthropology, which opened in 1964 and is recognized as one of the most important museums of its kind worldwide. She mentioned that all explanations inside are written in Spanish because organizers were not expecting international visitors.
The post highlighted several prominent exhibits, including the Sun Stone, a ceremonial monument often mistakenly called the Aztec Calendar. At the entrance of the museum stands a monolith weighing approximately 167 tons, representing either the rain god Tlaloc or his wife. Outside the structure, visitors can view El Paraguas, or The Umbrella, a massive roof resting on a single column with water cascading down like a waterfall.
The excursion to Mexico comes after other recent journeys by the actress. Samara previously traveled to Kyrgyzstan on July 15, 2026, and published video of an underwater dive on August 5, 2026.
