“Shazam!” Star Zachary Levi defends James Gunn and Peter Safran amid backlash

Shazam! Star Zachary Levi defends new DC Studios bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran. Both have recently come under fire after it was revealed that Gunn is writing a new Superman movie and that Henry Cavill will not be returning as Man of Steel, among other DC changes.

The decision to remake Superman caused some concern among other DC characters. Dwayne Johnson announced this on Tuesday Black Adam will not be part of the first phase of DC’s new plans.

Levi shared his thoughts in an Instagram Live video on Thursday, urging fans to trust Gunn and Safran’s vision for the DC Universe and not believe in “suspects and rumor mills.”

“They have no idea why the decisions are made. The amount of conjecture and rumor mills and drama and bullshit that goes on out there on Instagram and Twitter is ridiculous. It’s incredibly ridiculous,” Levi said. “So I would say be patient and give them some space and time to try to make something really special. And I think something that DC deserves and something that [Zack] Snyder tried and it just didn’t work out in the end, folks.

He added that the co-CEOs “don’t just make decisions because they like someone or don’t like them. They make decisions based on what’s best for Warner Bros., DC, the entire studio and company, and try to keep as many fans and audiences happy as possible.”

Levi continued, “If you’re out there and you really like what happened before, you can do it, that’s fine. But realize that there are a lot of people who don’t like these things and we always have to try to ‘ to appeal to as many viewers as possible, to make as many people happy as possible. That’s what we’re here for in entertainment, and I think that’s what Peter and James are trying to achieve. And it’s not an easy position, they were handed all these things that were already very contradictory. So people, just give them a break. Always with Calm. Breathe. It’s vacation, for heaven’s sake. Just enjoy what the vacation is, give them time to enjoy the vacation and let’s see what happens on the other side.

Levi also talked about his upcoming film Shazam! wrath of the gods, saying, “It’s even better than the first one and the first one was really damn good.” It is scheduled for release on March 17, 2023.

“Listen, I have no idea what’s going to happen to me in the end,” Levi said. “I think I’m in a pretty good position, I think we’ve made a great film, I think it’s going to do well – pretty well, I hope so. But again, regardless of whether at some point they decide that’s the way we have to go – that’s the break, that’s how it goes.
