‘Avatar: The Way Of Water’ Sails Past 0M Worldwide Box Office Amid Strong Midweek Gameplay

With Midweeks Strong and Steadfast, James Cameron Avatar: The Way of Water hit the $600 million mark worldwide. This comes after it quickly passed $500 million worldwide earlier this week following its $441.6 million opening weekend. The current worldwide total through Wednesday is $609.7 million included $426.8 million from the international box office.

The increase of the foreign comme away from the water at number 5 for a Hollywood title on the 2022 Overseas Chart, now surpassed Thor: Love and Thunder and The dough.

On Tuesday, the 20th Century Studios/Disney sequel added $40.5 million from overseas markets and another $39.5 million on Wednesday.

Domestically, as Anthony reported, away from the water achieved the second largest Wednesday of 2022.

International midweek averages 15% of opening weekend (taking volatile China out of the equation, which jumps to 17%). Looking at the markets that fell last week, France was up 64% on Wednesday (a World Cup semi-final was played last Wednesday), Germany was also higher while Korea and Italy were down around 30%.

As we enter a holiday weekend where Christmas Eve falls on a Saturday and Christmas Day falls on a Sunday, we’ll see a significantly brighter second frame – but around December 26-30, midweek is expected to be strong again.

Overall, the top 10 foreign markets as of Wednesday are China ($70.5 million), France ($37 million), Korea ($32.1 million), India ($26.5 million), Germany (US$26.1 million), the United Kingdom (US$21.6 million) and Mexico (US$19.4 million). M), Australia ($15.8 million), Italy ($13.8 million) and Brazil ($12.9 million).

Not included in the numbers above are Thursday’s numbers from China and Korea. In the first case, an additional estimated $3.8 million brings the total to date to $74.5 million. In the latter case, an estimate rises to $2.17 million Thursday away from the water to $34.7 million.
