‘The Witcher’: this will be Henry Cavill’s farewell

The disappointments for Henry Cavill’s followers do not end. The actor recently sold out of his Man of Steel role and will be replaced by Liam Hemsworth in his role as Geralt of Rivia, a drastic change that we will see in season four. The reasons for replacing him are not yet clear: it could have been a problem of commitment, having simultaneously projects in which he played Superman or Sherlock in ‘Enola Holmes 2’, or for differences of vision with the producers. With all, series showrunner Lauren Hissrich assures Cavill will have a “Heroic Goodbye” in the third season.

‘The Witcher’: this will be Henry Cavill’s farewell

“Henry [Cavill] He has contributed so much to the series that we want to honor him accordingly.”Hissrich tells Entertainment Weekly. Therefore, in the third season “Geralt’s big breakthrough is giving up neutrality and doing whatever it takes to get to Ciri. And to me, it’s the most heroic goodbye we could have, even if it wasn’t written to be.”, he claims. Hemsworth will enter the next season, which the original actor gave his approval on Instagram: “As with great literary characters, I pass the torch with respect for the time I’ve spent playing Geralt and with excitement to see Liam’s take on this fascinating and nuanced man.”Cavill wrote. “Liam good sir this character has wonderful depth, enjoy diving in and see what you can find”.

The showrunner also highlighted this in the fourth season the main character will undergo a change, beyond the obvious change of cast: “Geralt has a new mission in mind when we return to him in season 4. He’s a slightly different Geralt than we expected”.

faithful to the books

The third season of “The Witcher” will also be the most reliable for the saga written by Andrzej Sapkowski, which they had hitherto relied on more freely. This also seems like part of the perfect sendoff from Cavill, who is a huge fan of the novels and it’s even been speculated that his desire to accurately adapt them is one of the reasons for him ending up in the series. “The hardest thing for me was balancing the directors’ vision of the series with my love of the books, and trying to bring Geralt into the directors’ vision of the series.”he said in an interview.

“Obviously, we can’t do every page, but ‘Hatetime’ has given us so many great action moments, plot points, defining character moments, great reveals of a great villain. There is so much to do that we were able to stick to the books very closely”says Lauren Hissrich. Thus, fans of the series who also enjoyed the book saga like Henry Cavill will enjoy seeing how the series legitimately adapts the words that inspired it, in an honorary farewell to the original actor.

We’ll have to wait to find out the release date for ‘The Witcher’ season 3, sometime in 2023, but luckily its spinof is already around the corner: “The Witcher: The Origin of Blood” on Christmas Day.
