It was recently announced that Amazon Studios has ordered a series adaptation of the ancient mythology-themed action video game from PlayStation God of War.
The series follows Kratos, the god of war, who, “after banishing himself from his blood-soaked past in ancient Greece, places his weapons forever in the Norse realm of Midgard. When his beloved wife dies, Kratos sets out on a perilous journey with his estranged son to scatter his ashes from the highest peak, his wife’s last wish. Kratos soon realizes the journey is an epic quest in disguise, one that will test the bonds between father and son and force Kratos to battle new gods and monsters for the fate of the world.
Vernon Sanderhead of global television at Amazon Studios, praised what the series is doing and says the studio is always looking for things that have an “emotional core” and a “true narrative story” which is what makes God of War” special.”
He went on to share some new details about the story and praised it saying, “At the heart of it all is this story of fathers and sons and families, set against this giant epic landscape. So what Rafe [Judkins] and Mark [Fergus] and Falcon [Ostby] they came up with for the first season, and for the series, I think, it’s incredibly faithful to the source material, and also compelling in its own right. If you have never played the game, you will fall in love with the show and feel very welcome to join. So we think it’s going to be great.”
The series is co-produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon Studios in association with PlayStation Productions. Marco Fergo and Ostby Falcon (Iron Man, children of men) are writing the series with Rafe Judkins (The wheel of time) as showrunner.
It all sounds very exciting and I hope the creative team are really able to pull it off and deliver a tough and epic movie. God of War series! There’s no reason it shouldn’t be!
