Since its premiere in 2019, The fans of ‘Alita: Battle Angel’ wanted a sequel and they didn’t stand by: From organizing a Change.org petition with more than 121,000 signatures to posting announcements featuring testimonials, the so-called ‘Alita Army’ has been battling it out for some time. For the first time in years it seems that it could become a reality, since the days of its creators James Cameron and Robert Rodriguez have made a virtual blood pact in which they promise to continue the film.

At the end of a Variety interview in which the directors interview each other, Cameron proposes to his friend: “Listen, Let’s make another Alita movie”. Rodriguez immediately joins: “Yes, let’s do it”. Cameron waves his hand and says: “Blood pact”. Rodriguez laughs, but imitates him: “Blood pact!”.

After months of working alone on the script, the director and screenwriter of ‘Titanic’ handed over the direction of the project to his friend Rodriguez to devote himself to the highly anticipated sequel to ‘Avatar’, ‘Avatar: The Sense of Water’. In the interview they also commented on how Cameron entrusted them with the project, sending him 600 pages of written notes about the world and how cyborgs work in “Alita: Battle Angel”. “I don’t know if any of this helped you, but this is my process“, he admits.

The original film already has enough left over in its final scene to fuel a sequel, but Yukito Kishiro’s manga on which it’s based also has plenty of material.
