Prime Video will premiere the live action series inspired by one of the most acclaimed video games of recent years. As always when dealing with a product with a huge fandom behind it, the choice of actor or actress to bring such a beloved character to life is a very delicate matter. Neither the creative team of the series nor Amazon Prime Video have spoken on the one chosen to play Kratos, protagonist of “God of War”. Exactly the opposite happens with those people who are fans of the franchise, who have been posting their favorite actors for the role on social networks for months. In a poll conducted by Fandom Gaming, the five names with the most votes to play the character were Tom Hardy (‘Mad Max: Fury Road’), WWT fighter Triple H, Dave Bautista (‘Guardians of the Galaxy’) , Jason Momoa (“Aquaman”) and Christopher Judge, who gives voice and who is captured by motion to animate Kratos in video games. Lui won Best Performance Award at Game Awards 2022 for his role in ‘God Of War: Ragnarok’.

The series will tell us the story of Kratos, the god of war, who, after leaving behind his bloody life in ancient Greece, hangs up his weapons to live in the Nordic kingdom of Midgard. When his wife dies, Kratos sets out on a perilous journey with his son Atreus to scatter her ashes from the highest mountain, his wife’s dying wish. Kratos soon realizes that the journey is an epic adventure that will test the bonds between father and son and force him to battle new gods and monsters.
The creative group
At the controls of the series we find Rafe Judkins (‘The Wheel of Time’) as showrunner, while Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby, writers of ‘Iron Man’ and ‘Children of Men’, are responsible for the script, in addition to being executive producers. Cory Barlog, creative director of Santa Monica Studios, the studio where the God Of War video games were developed, will also serve as executive producer alongside Playstation Productions’ Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan and Santa Monica Studio’s Yumi Yang. The series is a co-production between Amazon Studios and Sony Pictures Television in association with PlayStation Productions. It is not yet known who will direct the series or when it will premiere.
