James Gunn announced that he will write a new Superman movie, but the big news is that Henry Cavill he will not be returning to reprise his role. This is something I’ve known for a long time and was making fun of it, and now here we are.
The Superman story that Gunn writes will focus on an earlier part of Superman’s life. Now, while Cavill won’t be reprising his Superman role in the film, Gunn and Peter Safran have talked about other projects to work on.
Gunn explained in a series of tweets:
Peter and I have a DC slate ready to go, that we couldn’t be more over the moon about; we will be able to share some interesting information about our first projects at the beginning of the new year.
Among those on the list is Superman. In the early stages, our story will focus on an earlier part of Superman’s life, so the character won’t be played by Henry Cavill.
But we just had a great meeting with Henry and we’re big fans and have talked about a number of interesting possibilities to work together in the future.
So, it looks like DC Studios is about to close the curtain on the Snyderverse and start anew. It makes sense to do that, and I’m actually looking forward to seeing what the future of the DC Cinematic Universe is.
Gunn previously stated that “Superman is a huge priority, if not the biggest priority.” This first film will set the tone for what the rest of this new DCU will be. The greatest story ever told in multiple movies, television shows and animated projects.
Gunn is a very talented director and storyteller, so bring that forward! I’m ready to see what his vision of the DCU will be! With this new story centered around a younger version of Superman, they’ll take the Smallville approach?
