The new director’s contract Mike Flanagan with Amazon Prime Video will start with a series based on “The Dark Tower” the successful book saga written by the famous master of terror Stephen Kingwhich already had a film in theaters years ago, with Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey, even if it didn’t have the expected success.
For years, Mike Flanagan has worked with Netflix on several series and films, “The Haunting of Hill House” being the most famous of all, but he has also led the catalog an adaptation of one of Stephen King’s books: ‘Gerald’s game’, and above all, this is not the first time that the director has worked with the stories of said author, since he presented ‘Doctor Sueño’ at the cinema in 2019.
Now that Mike Flanagan has finished his contract with Netflix, he will be working closely with him Amazon Prime videos and his first project is a series based on the saga “the dark tower” for which he imagines a total of 5 seasons, as revealed in an exclusive interview for Deadline where he ensures that he already has the pilot chapter ready.
I wrote a pilot, we see it as a series that will have at least five seasons. And having lived with this project for so long, I have a huge amount of it processed in my brain,” Flanagan explained.

The director of ‘The Haunting of Hill House’ assures that for many years he has wanted to work in the adaptation of this book seriesa project that he calls “his holy grail” and his new contract with Amazon Prime Video gives him the opportunity to fulfill this dream and bring this suspenseful fantasy adaptation to the digital screen.
Mike Flanagan assures that he has “a very detailed outline for the first season and a larger outline for the following seasons”, on the adaptation of “The Dark Tower”, so there is no doubt that he is very interested in making this promising and ambitious project with Amazon Prime Video.
Stephehn King excited about Mike Flanagan’s plans
Before Mike Flanagan terminated his contract with Netflix and joined Amazon Prime Video, his production company Intrepid had already taken over the rights to this literary saga, as writer Stephen King decided to confirm in Mike Flanagan’s work: “ he has been very supportive and is very enthusiastic about what we do.”
I sent (King) a very, very detailed outline of what I wanted to do with it. And it was in response to that that he gave us the rights,” Flanagan confessed.
It is currently too early to know the details of this ambitious fantasy series that Mike Flanagan plans to make for Amazon Prime Video, however there is no doubt that the famous filmmaker will give much to talk about now that he has stopped working with Netflix and has new plans for its future.
