After having triumphed with the film ‘Call me by your name’, director Luca Guadagnino returns to romantic drama with a film entitled ‘down to the bone’, which is already available at the box office and has the work of Timothee Chalamet as one of the protagonists of this impressive story with grotesque and aesthetic scenes, but accompanied by an unfortunate nonsensical script.

Having a love story between cannibalsthere is no doubt that the viewer will enjoy a film with shocking scenes and extravagant moments where some may feel compelled to put the popcorn aside, but the core of the plot lacks this aspect and instead has a basic and tasteless essence.

Yes, the film ‘To the Bones’ is visually striking and aesthetic, a delight for those who love photography, and the work of the actors and director is quite exciting. There is no doubt. Without going into details that could spoil the experience of the reader who has not seen this drama and love film, ‘Hasta los huesos’ makes the mistake of romanticizing cannibalism too much and for some moments the lives of the characters have a heroic tone in where it is made clear that they have special abilities that make them better than the rest of society, falling into the basic clichés of any other youth film.

The biggest problem with ‘Hasta los huesos’ is that, should the cannibalistic conflict of the plot be replaced by any other fantasy, from vampirism to time travel. The story has the structure of a youth film where the actions of the characters are quite predictable and their lives seem to replicate a mold already seen too many times on the big screen.

The lack of logic in ‘Hasta los huesos’

Another of the major problems of ‘Hasta los huesos’ is that there are some scenes which, to put it in the style of a completely unexpected twist, lack meaning and are illogical, as well as not having enough force to impress the viewer with surprise since none of the characters have an adequate construction to generate a bond with the audience.

If you remove the characteristics that make ‘Hasta los huesos’ a film worthy of being presented in art galleries, such as the direction of Luca Guadagnino, the role of Timothée Chalamet and the aesthetic photography. The result is a simple youth film that tries to impress the audience with grotesque and surprising scenes but with a story that doesn’t make sense.
