HBO has put all its efforts into promoting the premiere of ‘The Last of Us’ next January, which for days has been unveiling new details, information and previews of what promises to be one of the most anticipated series of next year. Now, Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin say the adaptation will be faithful to the video game and heartbreaking moments are to be expected.
During the recent Comic-Con Experience in Brazil, the creators of ‘The Last of Us’ of HBO talked about fidelity to the Sony video game. And since they have source material that has some pretty heartbreaking moments, Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann warn those who didn’t enjoy Joel and Ellie’s story that it will be as devastating an adventure as its source.
The creator of ‘Chernobyl’ confessed that in addition to respecting the original material, with ‘The Last of Us’ wait “that they don’t care if they break their hearts again and again…it’s all there, along with what Neil Druckmann has created in the game.” But even if fans of Joel and Ellie’s story know how it ends, “I promise you there are things coming that you don’t know about and that they will blow your mind.”
For his part, Neil Druckmann assures this there are stories inside ‘The Last of Us’ from HBO which could not fit into the video game: “”There’s some written material that we haven’t had a chance to put into the game that’s in the HBO series. So you’ll be able to see the development of these characters. It’s interesting, we’ve talked to people who’ve seen the whole season, They came back to play and said he’s richer after seeing him.”

HBO’s “The Last of Us” and the game changes
Finally, some doubts that fans had about the series with Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey have been resolved, namely that some of the changes to the source material is the appearance of Frank, Bill’s partner, who appears dead in the Naughty Dog game , while in the series is still alive, and will be played by Murray Barlett.
It is precisely Barlett who describes ‘The Last of Us’ as “one of the best hours of television” he has read in his entire career. “It’s beautiful. It’s beautifully written. It has creatures and zombies, but it’s cute and human. I think it’s going to be very special. I haven’t seen anything yet, but I’m very proud of the work we’ve done and I think it’s going to be really wonderful. It will be wonderful.” .
And is that, in the field of video game adaptations to the cinema, it can be said that few have done a good job respecting the original material. So HBO’s “The Last of Us” should be the story that will take the medium to other fields. The series will premiere on January 15, 2023 through the streaming platform.
