The first two episodes of Willow I’m currently streaming on Disney+ and from what I’ve seen, a lot of people seem to like it, which is great! I was personally disappointed with some aspects of the series, especially the contemporary aspects. I have rewatched the episodes with my family and they are enjoying it, and I actually enjoyed watching it with my family more. Weird how it works.
Anyway, for those of you wondering if there will be a second season, producer Roopesh Parech he recently spoke to CB and teased the possibility of a second season saying, “I think we’re going to finish this story, but we’re absolutely leaving a lot of corners open for the future.”
I wouldn’t be surprised if Willow gets a second season, especially as showrunner Jon Kasdan he left the door open for Val Kilmer to return and reprise her role as Madmartigan. Parekh went to talk about the collaboration with Lucasfilm for the first time saying:
“Oh my God. When I got the call, I thought it was a joke. No, it was so wonderful. I think Lucasfilm, at the heart of everything they do is storytelling, innovation and technological advancement. And when this script came, this was all of these things rolled into one. And Willow, I think it always stood out to me as a kid looking at it. It was always so different than Star Wars or Indiana Jones. I like to roll for those, obviously. it was just something fantastic about this unlikely hero who trips, falls, gets back up and learns magic and sorcery and just makes it fun.
“So when I got the call, I was like, ‘Is Warwick coming back?’ And they were like, ‘Yeah,’ it absolutely is. It was like, ‘This is going to be amazing.’ And then I think of Jon Kasdan, who’s just a phenomenal writer and an amazing showrunner, who almost 35 years ago, he saw him here in this theater, that’s when he first fell in love with him… It’s us that we come home in a lot of ways. And for Jon, it’s full circle. But I think he had such a passion and an infectious enthusiasm for this project. It spilled over into the cast and crew when we were making it.”
Speaking earlier on the development of the project, Kasdan explained: “It’s a completely new thing. From the moment I was involved Star Wars with George [Lucas]with Katia [Kennedy], with my father, I saw an opportunity here with Willow to bring this story back. I knew Warrick was eager to do it, to play it again, and then when Ron came and worked on Solo with us, he was just as eager, and we let the momentum of that allow us to continue this story that the three of us they really loved — that I loved as a fan and they loved as a work experience. I just thought, ‘How can I do that, and how can I give him the same loyalty we’ve been trying to give Solo?’ There are deep cuts in Willow’s show and board game references and novel references. We went deep and hopefully the real fans will appreciate it.”
The story began when an aspiring sorcerer, played by Warwick Davis,” is taken away on a journey to protect a newly born Empress Elora Danan and defeat the evil Queen Bavmorda from their own world of Andowyne. Now, the story continues with Davis reprising the lead role of him, as he leads an unlikely crew of heroes on a mission to protect Andowyne from an enemy even greater than they ever imagined possible.
The series is also starring Erin Kellyman (Solo: A Star Wars Story, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier), Ellie Bamber (Nocturnal animals), Ruby Cruz (Easttown mare), Toni Revolori (The Grand Hotel Budapest), Dempsey Brick (The Birch), Talisa Garcia (Serve and protect, Baptist), And game of Thrones actress Rosabell Laurenti Sellers. Christian Slater he also stars in the series. and we see it for the first time in this featurette.
