‘Vicious Bear’ has one scene that’s “like a mini ‘Fast & Furious,'” according to its director, Elizabeth Banks

“If what you want is to have an original cinematic experience, this film delivers what it promises in the title”says Elizabeth Banks in statements to eCartelera. ‘Vicious bear’, a mixture of war film, comedy, action and suspense, according to the director, who is in charge of directing; boasts of having “a special and unique tone” that was built the result of a search for inspiration that includes the most unexpected films like… ‘Fast & Furious’.

    'ferocious bear'

‘fierce bear’, which just released its first trailer ahead of its theatrical release on April 5, 2023, recently had a special screening where said advance was shown accompanied by a scene designed keeping in mind the saga starring Vin Diesel. As described by participants, such as North American media outlet SlashFilm, the sequence in question begins with a pair of young paramedics answering what they believe is a routine call at a national park visitor center. When they arrive they find the cake: mutilated bodies and a badly injured ranger, played by Margo Martindale. Said character tries to explain what happened, but before he can give the warning, the bear that gives the film its name appears. It is then that a mad chase breaks out, led by a cocaine-hungry bear who darts after an ambulance which in turn tries to dodge the trees as best it can..

“When I read this sequence in the script”Banks comments on Jimmy Warden’s screenplay, I remember thinking: “I want to do a mini ‘Fast & Furious’, a scene like where one of the cars is a bear and the other is an ambulance driven by idiots.”. Apparently what is shown in the special event would perfectly fit the director’s description, with an adrenaline-pumping hunt that then evolves into a gory and chaotic scene. Those present at the pass make sure that the sequence fits with the beginning of the film and this suggests a mixture of eccentric comedy and visceral terror.

Based on a true story

“We based the story of Andrew Thornton throwing cocaine from his plane as a starting point. The film tells a fictional idea of what the next 24 hours were like when the bear first found cocaine”, says Banks in his interview with eCartelera. What happened in the mid-80s captivated this director who finds “Interesting that the authorities never found the cocaine”. Former narcotics agent turned drug dealer Andrew Thornton died after being forced to drop the drugs he was carrying on his plane and bail out. Following this, months later, a “a black bear that had consumed about 30 kg”. “For us there was an unfilled gap in information, and we wanted to tell what the hell could have happened”.
