Cult classic ‘The Goonies’ home may be for sale – report

The Oregon House was made famous by the 1985 cult classic The Goonies on the market and possibly already sold.

The Victorian home from the film, set in Astoria, Oregon, has fetched a sale price of $1.655 million for its current owner, according to TMZ, citing “real estate sources.”

Agent Jordan Miller, who is brokering the property, said Tuesday, “It seems like everybody’s intent is to open up the house a little bit more and have more access.”

The home is 2336 square feet with three bedrooms, two bathrooms and views of the Oregon Coast.

The Goonies is a 1985 American adventure comedy film co-produced and directed by Richard Donner from a screenplay by Chris Columbus based on a story by Steven Spielberg.

The film follows the adventures of a group of children living in the Goon Docks neighborhood of Astoria, Oregon. Their homes are in danger, but the kids find an old treasure map that reveals the fortune of One-Eyed Willy, a 17th-century pirate. Adventure ensues as the Goonies try to outwit and escape a group of criminals looking for the same treasure.

Owning the famous home is something of a mixed blessing. Fans flock to the filming location in droves as “Goonies Day” is celebrated every June 7 from Astoria, the movie’s release date. While owner Sandi Preston tried to be helpful, she ended up not putting up any trespassing signs.

Preston reopened the property to tourists in August, and Astoria officials instituted parking restrictions in the area.
