There are always predictable stories, i.e. plots from which you can guess what’s going to happen. And while that’s not necessarily a bad thing, it’s better when they keep everything a secret until the very end. And the same goes for these detective and crime films, films that promise a solution, they give you some clue, but you have to stick to the end credits to figure out what happened.
A master at this detective films that have no resolution until the end, is Denis Villeneuve, a Canadian director who in 2013 released ‘Prisoners’, a crime thriller starring Jake Gyellenhall and Hugh Jackman. These are two families who lose their young daughters, who are believed to have been kidnapped, but given the ineptitude of the authorities, the father begins to act alone. Memories of murder
Inspired by the crimes of Korea’s first serial killer, ‘Memories of murder’ It is one of the best crime movies.directed by Bong Joon-ho and released in 2003. The story follows a detective and two police officers from a small town, who investigate the occurrence of brutal murders with similarities to each other, but several months apart.
Kisses Kisses Bang Bang
Although Robert Downey Jr.’s career now appears to be known only for Iron Man, the actor starred in the 2005 film ‘Kisses Kisses Bang Bang’, a crime film in which he also shares credits with Val Kilmer and Michelle Monaghan. It’s a thief about a thief who, on the run, finds himself immersed in an audition for a superhero movie, where he learns how to be a detective. Available on Apple TV.

Probably one of the longest stories on the list, but it will also appeal to those who love solving crimes. This is “Zodiac”, a suspense thriller directed by David Fincher and starring Mark Ruffalo, Robert Downey Jr. and Jake Gyllenhaal. It’s about the Zodiac Killer, a real killer who fooled the police and was never caught.
Bad times at the El Royale
Directed by Drew Goddar in 2018, and starring Jeff Bridges, Jon Hamm, Chris Hemsworth and Dakota Johnson, we have ‘Bad Times at the El Royale’, a story of suspense and mystery. Set in the 1960s, the story follows seven strangers who meet in a hotel, and each of them harbors a dark secret, from which they have one last chance to redeem themselves. Available on Star+.

And finally, one of the best detective and detective films, such as “Chinatow”, released in 1974, directed by Roman Polanski and starring Jack Nicholson. The story is about a private detective who starts what appears to be a routine and simple case, but which soon turns into bribery, incest and murder. Available on Amazon Prime Video.
