Spider-Man stories will expand with an entire universe of series. However, don’t expect them on Disney+. Since the wall crawler and the more than 900 characters associated with it are in the hands of Sony Pictures, with the exception of Tom Holland’s Spidey due to a collaboration agreement between Sony and Marvel, the studio has signed a deal with MGM+ and Amazon Prime Video to launch these new arachnid series on their platforms. The first of them, collects Deadline, will be titled ‘Silk: Spider Society’, and will be behind Angela Kang, showrunner of ‘The Walking Dead’. Cindy Moon, alias Silk, was created by Dan Scott and Humberto Ramos in 2014, she is a Korean woman who receives her powers by being bitten by the same spider as Peter Parker. Silk has been involved in Sony’s plans for years, initially with her own film. The character made very minor appearances in ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’, ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ and in a deleted scene from ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ played by Tiffany Espensen. Most likely they will follow another line of the series, which also has in the title the secret society of hunters that has existed since the Middle Ages in the comics.
Sony’s plans with this Spiderverse based on the series are very ambitious. The studio has signed a multi-year deal with Amazon Studios to develop ‘Silk: Spider Society’ and other titles, which will be supervised by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, writers and producers of the successful ‘Spider-Man: A New Universe’. Amy Pascal, producer of the Spider-Man film franchise, has also been named executive producer.
