The British publication has announced its January 2023 issue, which arrives as usual with two covers, one for newsstands featuring a promotional portrait of Ford casually leaning against a wall in classic Indiana Jones suit and fedora hat partially covering them the face; and another subscriber exclusive featuring an illustration by Sam Hadley, who reveals that the film will traverse 1960s New York. In the image we see Indy with his back to the skyscrapers of the Big Apple, with the iconic Chrysler building in the background.

On the other hand, we also have the first promotional frame of the film, directed by James Mangold, who takes over from Spielberg for the first time. The image shows Ford aboard a ship in the middle of the sea. Although specific details about its plot are not yet known, Ford anticipated in his interview for Empire, that the film will have all the ingredients of the saga: “It’s full of adventure, laughter and real emotion. It’s complex and cunning”says the actor.

For Ford, taking up the whip wasn’t exactly an easy experience. “The shooting was hard, long and tiring”says the performer, who turned 80 last July and suffered an injury during the recording. “But I’m very happy with the film we have”, he clarifies. On why he decided to return for one last adventure, especially after the blip of ‘Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull’, universally considered the worst of the series, Ford says: “I just thought it would be cool to see an episode where Indiana Jones was at the end of his journey”.

Mangold has experience orchestrating the twilight of an iconic hero, having directed ‘Logan’, Hugh Jackman’s acclaimed final film as Wolverine in the X-Men saga. He is himself responsible for the script along with Jez and John-Henry Butterworth. Spielberg is not directing an episode of the saga for the first time, but remains creatively tied as a producer. Joining Ford in the cast, Phoebe Waller-Bridge (“Fleabag”) and Mads Mikkelsen (“Fantastic Beasts: Dumbledore’s Secret”) join the franchise.

The first trailer is on its way

What we still don’t know is the official title of the film, which for now is still tentatively called ‘Indiana Jones 5’. Lucasfilm has resisted making the announcement for now, though something tells us it’s not far off.

As Mangold revealed on Nov. 13, the first trailer for “Indiana Jones 5” would be revealed in less than a month. While we don’t have a specific date, that would place the release of said teaser in mid-December. If it is not announced sooner, the logical thing would be that the advance already comes with its full title, as usual with big Disney projects.
