After winning the Oscar (at least one of them) with ‘The City of Stars: La La Land’, Damien Chazelle took us to outer space with ‘First Man’ and now transports us to the dawn of Hollywood with ‘ Babylon’, with Margot Robbie, Tobey Maguire, Brad Pitt and Diego Calva. The film opens December 23 in the United States and Canada. and in Spain we will be able to see it from January 20, but there has already been a special screening at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills this Monday, November 14th.

Early reactions to the screening’s release were far from unanimous, with reviews ranging from epic to monstrous. “Babylon” is an epic that lasts 3 hours and 8 minutes with influences as varied as Federico Fellini’s “La dolce vita” or “The Godfather” by Francis Ford Coppola. A story of ambition and excess that traces the rise and fall of various characters in an age of rampant decadence and depravity. For Clayton Davis by variety, “‘Babylon’ is like Damien Chazelle reading ‘Sodom and Gomorrah’ and then saying ‘hold my beer!’ Cocaine Inducing High Voltage Trip”; while ryan swen of LAFCA says it is “Truly monstrous in its insistent insistence on putting the viewer’s face in the mud and claiming it is something new or moving.” As you can see everything is there, what hasn’t been fixed is a precise date for the lifting of the embargo on total criticism.
Extravagant, decadent and all together delightfully delicious. @babylonmovie it’s a phenomenal film. This is Damien Chazelle’s love letter to film and Margot Robbie’s best performance to date. The score is outstanding. pic.twitter.com/86zpBANE8D

“Wacky, decadent and all together deliciously delicious. ‘Babylon’ is phenomenal. This is Damien Chazelle’s love letter to cinema and Margot Robbie’s best performance to date. The score is outstanding.”
Babylon is a fever dream of a movie that is at its best when it’s straight comedy. The drama barely unfolds. Pitt and Jovan Adepo give the best performances in the film. Robbie gives it his all, but the character is so one note. I did not like it.

“’Babylon’ is a fever dream of a movie that’s at its best when it’s truly a comedy. The drama barely picks up. Pitt and Jovan Adepo give the best performances in the movie. . I didn’t love it.
Damien Chazelle brings buckets of energy to BABYLON, but he’s never pounding, obvious, and ultimately short-sighted. Is everything borrowed? even down to Tobey Maguire who stole the movie as Alfred Molina. A film about Scorsese’s coke from a perfectly clean director.

Babylon is an ambitious mess of a film. I don’t even know where to start with this one, but the tone is all over the place. Margot Robbie tries but the script fails. A love letter to cinema that made me hate cinema. #BabylonMovie pic.twitter.com/BnKQiOz2Zd

the good summary
A bullet of intoxicated Margot Robbie vomiting all over the face of a stuffy old man in a tuxedo pretty much sums up the chaotic energy and glorious mess of BABYLON, truly the weirdest, most debauched love letter to Hollywood ever.
