Eddie Redmayne returns to the Oscar hunt in a surprising new way – on the actor’s side

The Actor’s Side, my Deadline video series highlighting some of the best actors in the business, returns today for Oscar season and we begin my conversation with Eddie Redmayne, whose role as serial killer Charlie Cullen on Netflix’s The good nurse created many new awards for Redmayne in the Best Supporting Actor category. It is indeed a terrifying performance in the true story in which he stars with Jessica Chastain, who plays a nurse at a large hospital who soon discovers that her new friend and colleague is killing patients in a way not unique to there is not, but went unnoticed in several other hospitals where he previously worked. It’s a whole new kind of role for the Oscar-winning star, who won Best Actor for his role as Stephen Hawking The theory of everything and won another nomination as The Danish girl. Playing these kinds of real-life characters, and now Cullen, is something Redmayne has a lot of experience with. In our conversation, we talk about why he is so drawn to such challenges, and we also talk about the landmines that actors can sometimes encounter when playing certain characters. We also talk about the future of Fantastic animals franchise, his recent Olivier Award-winning role in the London production of cabaret, what it was like to win the Oscar for Best Actor and where his amazing career is taking him next.
