‘Andor’: Tony Gilroy announces the filming of the second season and who will direct it

Although the first season of ‘Andor’ doesn’t finish until November 23 on Disney + with episode 12 airing, the production of the second season begins in the same month of November in London, precisely on the 21st, the Monday before Thanksgiving. Showrunner Tony Gilroy confirmed this to Collider, with whom he also shared the new names that will be put behind the cameras of subsequent batches of chapters.

You already know that ‘Andor’ has an internal structure within the season and divides its 12 episodes into groups of 3 written and directed by the same people. In the case of the first season, Toby Haynes directed the first 3 chapters with scripts by Tony Gilroy himself; Susanna White covered the next 3 with lyrics by Dan Gilroy; then Benjamin Caron appeared with Stephen Schiff as screenwriter and they signed episodes 7, 11 and 12; the rest (8, 9 and 10) have Haynes again in the director’s chair, but this time he takes up the words written by Beau Willimon.

Ahead of the second season, Gilroy has cast Ariel Kleiman, Janus Metz and Alonso Ruizopalacios as directors; and repeated writers Dan Gilroy and Beau Willimon, joined by Tom Bissell, whom Gilroy describes as “excellent, interesting, versatile and good”in addition to being “a big fan of ‘Star Wars’.”

Until now, Kleiman has directed episodes of “Yellowjackets” or “Top of the Lake”; Metz the films ‘An appointment with the past’ and ‘Borg McEnroe’; and Ruizpalacios has “Narcos: México”, “Güeros” and the pilot of “Vida” in his resume.

The second season of “Andor” will also be the last season and once again will have 12 episodes that will tell a time span of 5 years to combine the event of the end of the first with the beginning of “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story”.
