After four seasons, HBO has decided to cancel the science fiction drama Westworld. This series was one of HBO’s biggest tentpole series, so it seems to come as a surprise to a lot of people. I was actually wondering how long the series was going to last because I noticed there hasn’t been much hype online for the last two seasons.
Now, the report has confirmed that ratings for the show “dropped dramatically for its third season, and then dropped further for its fourth season.” Furthermore, the reviews of critics have also decreased. While I enjoyed the first two seasons of the series, my interest in the series started to fade as I watched the third season. It started to get messy and I’m not surprised the series was canceled.
Co-creator of the series Jonathan Nolan he hoped HBO would give the series a fifth season to wrap up the show’s ambitious story last month by saying, “We always have a fifth and final season planned. We are still in conversation with the network. We really hope to get them. ”Co-creator Lisa Joy he went on to say that the story has always worked towards a specific ending: “Jonah and I have always had an ending in mind that we hope to achieve. We haven’t fully achieved it yet. “
Well now they will never get to that ending! I think the show would have worked best as a limited series Guardians. A season or two to tell the story. It didn’t really need to be extended to five seasons. I haven’t seen Season 4 yet, but I’ve heard it’s ambiguous and could serve as a finale.
HBO said in a statement, “Over the past four seasons, Lisa and Jonah have taken viewers on a shocking odyssey, raising the bar with every step. We are extremely grateful to them, along with their cast, producers and crew immensely. talented and all our partners from Kilter Films, Bad Robot and Warner Bros. Television. It was a thrill to join them on this journey.
Here is a statement from Kilter Films: “Making Westworld it was one of the highlights of our career. We are deeply grateful to our extraordinary cast and crew for creating these indelible characters and brilliant worlds. We were privileged to tell these stories about the future of consciousness, both human and beyond, in the short amount of time before our AI masters forbade us. ”
Who knows, maybe in a few years he will get a film that will end the story.
