Netflix has long announced that it would be making changes to its service model, due to the losses the company was enduring. The platform informed all of its current subscribers and those who had planned to join in the future that there would soon be a lower-rate option, which involved advertising. This category already has a name and a date in Spain: it is called “Basic with ads” and will arrive on November 10th. Its price is lower than the rest of the rates, it costs 5.49 euros per month, but it has some more drawbacks in addition to those that had resonated the most: In addition to lowering the playback resolution and eliminating the ability to download content, it significantly limits the catalog, leaving out some of the most famous Netflix series.

Subscribers with the lowest rate can forget to watch the new season of “The Crown”, to watch “Breaking Bad” or “Peaky Blinders” again and to relax with “Arrested Development” or “The Good Place”, because they are some of the many series that will no longer be available, not even with announcements.
According to Netflix, titles that aren’t available are “due to licensing restrictions”as in the case of “House of Cards”, as it is a production outside of Netflix. The platform warns that this may also affect some children’s titles, although the ads are not available in children’s profiles.
Many programs are not available in Netflix’s ad-supported tier, including:
– ‘The crown’
– “Cobra Kai”
– ‘Development stopped’
– ‘Breaking Bad’
– ‘The good place’
– ‘Grey’s Anatomy’
– ‘House of cards’
– How to get away with murder ‘
– ‘New girl’
– ‘Peaky Blinders’ pic.twitter.com/MJ0xHfJQ5jDiscussingFilm (@DiscussingFilm) November 3, 2022
“Many programs are not available at Netflix’s ad-supported rate, including: ‘The Crown’, ‘Cobra Kai’, ‘Arrested Development’, ‘Breaking Bad’, ‘The Good Place’, ‘Grey’s Anatomy’, ‘House of Cards ”, ‘How to Get Rid of Murder’, ‘New Girl’, ‘Peaky Blinders’ “
However, the list of unavailable titles is expanded, covering series such as ‘The Sinner’, ‘Good Girls’ and long-running productions such as ‘Grey’s Anatomy’. We will have to wait for the rate to be available in Spain to see what other series and films they will affect.
4 minutes of advertising per hour
This was announced by the official Netflix website “normal is that you see an average of about 4 minutes of ads per hour”although it may vary depending on the content displayed, except for child profiles, where no ads will be displayed. That would mean nearly 8 minutes of commercials that can’t be skipped or anticipated in a medium-length film, let alone serial marathons.
The “Basic with ads” plan is the only one to have advertising at a price of € 5.49 per month, while the other three plans, Basic (€ 7.99), Standard (€ 12.99) and Premium (€ 17.99), have resolution improvements, download options and titles available. We will have to wait to see if the rate holds over time and if the plan lasts despite being a downgrade. The “Basic with Ads” system is already implemented in countries such as the United States, Germany, United Kingdom, Mexico or Japan e will arrive in Spain on 10 November.
