Matthew Perry wonders why Heath Ledger and River Phoenix died and Keanu Reeves didn’t (and apologizes)

When it comes to saying outrageous things in his memoirs, Brian Cox had an unexpected competition: Matthew Perry (yes, Chandler in ‘Friends’). We have already told you here that the actor had written his autobiography and here in it he told how Jennifer Aniston had confronted him about her addiction to alcohol and drugs, but the fact is that the book does not stop leaving new titles.

The book, which in Spain is titled ‘Friends, lovers and the terrible one’, will be on sale on November 1 in the United States (November 17 in our country), and those who have already been able to read it have shared an excerpt from the one in to which Perry writes: “Why do original thinkers like River Phoenix and Heath Ledger die, but Keanu Reeves still walks among us?” This quote is unnecessarily offensive to the “Matrix” actor, because it can also be read: “River was a beautiful man, inside and out, he turned out to be too good for this world. It always seems to be the really talented guys who walk away.” almost implying that Reeves is a worse actor than those mentioned.

Perry and Phoenix became friends after filming “A Night in the Life of Jimmy Reardon” in 1988, but Phoenix and Reeves were also close friends and starred together in “I Love You Death” and “My Private Idaho”. Phoenix died in the early hours of October 31, 1993. at the age of 23 after overdosing outside The Viper Room nightclub, owned at the time of Johnny Depp. “I heard the screams from my house; I went back to bed; I woke up with the news”Perry says about that day. Later in the book, Perry also talks about Chris Farley’s death in 1988 at the age of 33 and repeats again: “And Keanu Reeves is still walking among us.”. what a grudge

Excuses

From Deadline they contacted Perry about these insulting comments against Reeves and apologized to the medium: “I’m actually a huge fan of Keanu, I just picked a random name, my fault. I apologize. I should have used my name instead. ”
