TRICK ‘R TREAT Director Michael Dougherty on the future of the franchise; I would like to make animated shorts

Every Halloween since then Trick or treat he’s out, director Michael Daugherty has been asked about the sequel and when it will finally happen. Well, this year he explained that it is in “very active development” and made it seem like it will finally happen.

Well, if that happens, he also has other future plans for the franchise that he’d like to see. As you know, Trick or treat was inspired by an animated short film he created in college titled Seasonal greetings, and the director is willing to go back to that format. During an interview with Nerdist, he said:

‘Yes, I would like to. I’d like to do it. I would also open the door to involve other directors to make short films, be it animation or live-action. I just think it would be fun. I mean obviously we’re talking about a sequel right now, and I think animation for maybe a Halloween special. He could be really crazy in terms of formats and styles, expanding the mythology and Sam as a character. I think it would be separate from whatever little deep path we’ve taken before. It’s fun to imagine an annual Halloween special. It could be half an hour. It could be an hour, but something that could be more irreverent. “

This franchise has always had such fantastic and disturbing potential. It is a pity that nothing has been done in all these years to expand it. I’d like to know why study and creativity have been dragging their feet on this sequel for so long on this sequel.

If the sequel is actually made and a success, maybe we will start to see this franchise really flourish.
