‘Halloween Ends’ leads the US box office during its debut – Broadcast (Blumhouse)
On October 13, the premiere of what would be the last film of one of the most important horror sagas in the history of cinema, ‘Halloween Ends’, which positioned itself as number 1 at the box office in the United States. Despite this, the film directed by David Gordon Green was at the same time a disappointment, both for critics and audiences.
“Halloween ends” raised this weekend 41.3 million dollars in North America, in 3,901 sales, according to estimates released on Sunday. The film had a budget between 20 and 30 million dollars and, adding up the international box office, has a total of 58.4 million dollars grossed.
Despite all this, the film did not achieve the results expected by the company and its director, before its arrival in theaters. This may be due to several factors, firstly, it is that we continue in the economic and social consequences left behind by COVID-19, secondly, the fact that it was launched simultaneously in streaming, via Peacock.
But added to that, we must remember that “Halloween Ends” did not outperform its predecessors at the box office. 2018’s “Halloween” debuted with $ 76.22 million, while “Halloween Kills” opened with $ 49.4 million last year. So ‘Halloween Ends’ was expected to hit 55 million, partly because it’s the latest installment.
On the other hand, the latest Halloween tape became the movie the most viewed in history on the streaming platform peacockreaching this position only in the first two days available, although this does not make it clear that it will be a profitable move for the company in charge of distribution, Universal Pictures.
“Halloween Ends” had a very poor reception from critics
Unfortunately, for fans of Laurie Strode and Michael Myers, the critical reception of “Halloween Ends” has been rather negative, since on its first day of release, most film critics have found it a unsatisfactory endingalthough they highlight Jamie Lee Curtis’ performance, qualifying it as flawless.
On the other hand, the film has an acceptance rate of 46% and a negative score of 54%, based on more than 70 critics on the specialized film and television review site Rotten Tomatoes, a lower than acceptable rating, notably emphasizing the script deficits and the superficial and almost forced treatment of the nature of Myers disease.
