Zooey Deschanel (The new girl, 500 days of summer) has joined Rose Byrne in the upcoming third season of the hit Apple TV + series Physicist.
Deschanel will play a character named Kelly, “an online sitcom star who decides to enter the burgeoning fitness industry.” It seems like it’s been a while since I’ve seen Deschanel in any kind of new project, but this looks like it’s going to be a great character for her to play.
The series is set in the “idyllic but fragile beach paradise of sunny 1980s San Diego,” Physicist follows Sheila Rubin (Byrne), a silently tortured and seemingly respectful housewife who supports her intelligent but controversial husband’s candidacy for the state assembly. But behind closed doors, Sheila has her own darkly amusing take on life that she rarely lets the world see. She is also battling a complex array of personal demons related to her self-image of her … that is, until she finds deliverance through the most unlikely source: the world of aerobics.
Season two of the season saw Byrne “successfully launching her first fitness video only to meet some new and bigger obstacles in her path. She’s torn between loyalty to her husband (Rory Scovel) and the values it represents, and a dangerous attraction to someone else. And because it’s no longer the only game in town, it finds itself having to outrun some fierce new competitors on the way to build a real fitness empire. “
