Although Christopher Lloyd, better known as Doc in ‘Back to the Future’, has given a brilliant interpretation of Uncle Lucas, Netflix has decided to choose a new actor who will give a new life to the character of the Addams Family, in ‘Wednesday’. And even though rumors indicated that Johnny Depp would take the role, the first glance at Uncle Fester reveals that this was not the case.
The Netflix series will be directed by Tim Burton and is a spin-off of “Los Locos Adams”, centered on Merlina, played by Jenna Ortega. Given the director’s affinity with Johnny Depp was believed to play Uncle Lucas ‘Wednesday’. Newsweek media reported this after the “Pirates of the Caribbean” actor was involved in the scandals with Amber Heard.
However, Johnny Depp will not play Uncle Lucas ‘Wednesday’, as Netflix released the first look at Uncle Fester, the character’s original name in Tim Burton’s series. Instead, Fred Armisen will get the role. Armisen is an actor and musician known for his appearances on “Saturday Night Live” and films such as “Eurotrip”, “Anchorman”, among others.
Vanity Fair was the first to confirm Fred Armisen as Uncle Lucasand shared some images of the character design, which is very similar to Christopher Lloyd’s, with the characteristic pale skin, large bulging eyes, his shiny baldness, although this time he wears a black hat to complement his coat.
Fred Armisen reveals how Uncle Lucas became
The Uncle Lucas actor was one of the best-kept secrets of “Wednesday” and Netflix, and despite strong rumors pointing to Johnny Depp, it was Fred Armisen who stayed out of the mystery all this time. In this regard, the actor reveals what it was like preparing for the role. “They did a really great job with the makeup and everything. He had no eyebrows. ”
“They were stretched over my eyebrows to give me that look. But I think bald hats aren’t always pretty, so I was hoping to make it a lot more convincing, “Armisen said in the interview. Uncle Lucas is the perfect counterpart to Jenna Ortega’s dark Merlina personality, showing her more curious side and funny and becoming the comedian of the series.
Uncle Lucas first appeared in Charles Addams comics between the 1940s and 1950s, was later played for the first time by Jackie Coogan, then by the aforementioned Christopher Lloyd, and in animated films Nick Kroll has lent his voice. Now we will see Fred Armisen in “Wednesday” next November 23 on Netflix.
