I’ll be honest, when I saw Namor the Sub-Mariner flying around with his winged ankles in the latest trailer that was released for Black Panther: Wakanda forever, I had a big smile on my face. I wasn’t really sure if Marvel or the director Ryan Coogler I would really try to do it! But they did, and it looked both fun and cool. I loved how they made him fly around like a hummingbird.
It seems most fans liked Namor’s ankle wings, but of course there are those who didn’t care about them. During a recent interview with EW, Coogler talked about the winged ankles and defended them, saying:
“I think by making this kind of film, you have to get close to weird things, or you risk missing out on what makes it fun. [Namor’s] it has very unique features and things that don’t necessarily go together. He can breathe underwater, of course, but he has these little wings on his ankles. He has pointed ears and goes around in his underwear. This is all fun, man.
It’s all funny, which is why I’m glad he got close to those weird things about Namor. Now, they’ve changed a few things about Namor for the movie. In the comics, Namor comes from the underwater kingdom of Atlantis. But the MCU version of Namor comes from “Talocan”, which is rooted in the mythical Aztec water paradise of Tlālōcān. This makes the tradition more in line with Huerta’s Mexican heritage.
The director also talked about how the film will handle the death of Chadwick Boseman and death in King T’Challa’s film. Coogler explained:
“I had to find a way that I felt I could move forward and a way that our ‘Black Panther’ family could move forward. I started coming up with a film that had elements of the film that we had just finished writing, but also applied the themes that people who were suffering as much as I could actually act and perform and come out on the other side whole. “
Black Panther: Wakanda forever will be the protagonist Tenoch Huerta, Danai Gurira, Letizia Wright, Daniel Kaluya, Winston Duke, Lupita Nyong’o, Florence Kasumba, Angela BassettAnd Martin Freeman.
The film is scheduled for release on November 11, 2022.
