Director Francis Ford Coppola added some new cast members to his next epic movie Megalopolis. These new cast members include a legendary actor Dustin Hoffman, Chloé Fineman (Live Saturday night), Isabelle Kusman (Licorice pizza), DB Sweeney (Fire in the sky), and newcomer Bailey Ives.
They join the previous cast Adam Driver, Shia LaBeouf, Forest Whitaker, Nathalie Emmanuel, Jon Voight, Aubrey Square, Jason Schwartzman, Laurence Fishburne, Grace Vander Waal, Kathryn Hunter, Giacomo RemarAnd Talia County.
The film tells the story of an architect who dreams of a utopian version of New York City in the near future and his battle with the conservative mayor, who has other ideas about the city. Within the epic is contained a myriad of plots and characters. “The fate of Rome haunts a modern world unable to solve its social problems in this epic story of political ambition”.
Coppola also described the film as “a love story. A woman is torn between loyalty to two men. But not just two men. Every man comes with a philosophical principle. One of her is her father who raised her, who taught her Latin in her womb and is devoted to a much more classical vision of society, the kind of vision of Marcus Aurelius. The other, who is the lover, is the enemy of the father but is dedicated to a much more progressive ‘Let’s take a leap into the future, let’s jump over all this garbage that has contaminated humanity for 10,000 years. We discover who we really are, that we are an enlightened, friendly, joyful species. ‘”
Coppola also previously said of the film: “What would make me really happy? It’s not winning many Oscars because I already have many and maybe more than I deserve. And it’s not like I make a lot of money, although I think over time it will make a lot of money. because all that people keep looking and finding new things, that makes money. So somewhere deep down, long after I’m gone, all I want is for them to discuss [Megalopolis] and, is the society we live in the only one available to us? How can we make it better? Education, mental health? What the film actually proposes is that utopia is not a place. And how can we make everything better? Every year, he comes up with two, three or four ideas that make him better. “
“I would smile in the grave if I thought something like this happened, because people talk about what the movies really mean if you give them something.
