“DAHMER – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” arrived on Netflix on September 21 and, since then, hasn’t left Netflix’s global Top 10 of the most followed and popular series on the platform. The series about serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer spent two weeks at the top of the Top 10 and also became the second most viewed English-language series in just one week, behind only the fourth season of “Stranger Things”.

The series, starring Evan Peters (Jeffrey Dahmer) and created by Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan, topped the list of English television series for two consecutive weeks. The premiere of “Dahmer” reached a whopping figure of nearly 300 million hours viewed in its second week on the platform (299.84 to be exact).

The success of ‘Dahmer’ was practically immediate. The true crime series entered the world Top 10 after 12 days of broadcast, with a total of 496.05 million hours watched. If we divide the hours played on the platform by the time it took to run the series, Netflix estimated that ‘Dahmer’ has entered 56 million homes, a very high number and close to other big hits on the platform, such as ‘The Squid Game’. or ‘The Bridgertons’, which managed to reach 62 million and 53 million homes respectively in the same period as the Jeffrey Dahmer series.

At the premiere of the series, even earlier, she was surrounded by numerous controversies. One of the most well-known was the LGBTQ label issue that Netflix included in the series and which caused harsh criticism from some fans, causing the platform to do away with that categorization. In addition, several relatives of the victims of the serial killer have pointed out to Netflix their disagreement with the creation and premiere of this fiction, because “retraumatized” review all the atrocities committed by Dahmer.

The controversy never ends

Jeffrey Dahmer’s story has struck many people, and some have already begun to investigate curiosities related to the violent killer. One of the most commented data on the networks was the mention of Dahmer in an old song by Katy Perry, “Dark Horse”, from 2013. Several users have expressed their displeasure with the singer for including the killer’s name in one of her hits, and some of her fans have asked for the song to be removed.
