‘Blonde’ director explains movie ending and Marilyn Monroe’s death – Netflix (Courtesy)
The premiere of Ana de Armas’ new film on Netflix was surrounded by controversy, both for the interpretation of the leading actress, and for the controversy of some of her most impressive scenes. That’s why the director, Andrew Dominik, came out to clarify what happened at the end of “Blonde” and the mystery surrounding the tragic death of Marylin Monroe.
Yes if, Marylin Monroe’s death has been linked to theories about the real cause of her death, and “Blonde” confronts her, but leaves some questions open that might solve what happened at the end of Norma Jeane’s life. Regarding the last stretch of her, Andrew Dominik spoke with The casing to clarify some things that were not clear in Ana de Armas’ film.
Dominik clarifies some points of the end of ‘blonde’, which, as expected, leaves the interpretation several moments to understand the tragic death of Marylin Monroe. It is worth mentioning that there will be spoilers. It all begins with the death of Cass, Norma’s ex-lover, who sent her a package containing her childhood tiger plush toy and a letter that said: “The grieving father never existed”.
In other words, the letters Monroe has received throughout history were not from her father, but from Cass. This revelation is of the utmost importance to Norma’s life, who immediately begins an uncontrolled consumption of pills, which uncontrollably leads to her death. For years, there has been a theory that John F. Kennedy was in charge of her murder, which Andrew Dominik finds absurd.
Marylin Monroe’s murder theory in ‘Blonde’
Already in the novel of the same name by Joyce Carol Oates, there is talk of murder by murder, an idea that for Andrew Dominik “doesn’t make fucking sense”: “I don’t think she was killed. There is no reason to kill her, because if she had held a press conference and said she had an affair with the Kennedys, no one would have reported him. I mean, she could literally have called a press conference and nobody would have written what she said. So there is no point in killing her. “
When the actress, model and singer died, Dominik is sure that Monroe died of an overdose: “She was obviously a drug addict. I think you probably died from an accidental overdose, which is the most common thing in the world for an addict. But I also believe that accidental overdose is a form of suicide. You know, a kind of left-handed suicide where the right hand doesn’t know what the other is doing. ”
But despite Norma’s father seems to be the trigger for her descent into hell, Dominik has another explanation: I think, after all, it’s the mother. If your mother wants you not to exist, there is a part of you that tries to fulfill your mother’s wish and become what your mother wants you to be, almost like an act of devotion to her. ”
