Robert Eggers (The witch, the north) tried to direct a remake of the classic 1922 vampire movie Nosferatu For years. The film was about to go into production earlier this year, but when Harry Styles abandoned the project, things fell apart. After that happened, the director started wondering if he would be able to make this film.
Well, fortunately the director is carrying out the project! It was announced that the actor Pennywise Bill Skarsgard is attached to play the lead role, and Lily-Rose Depp is in talks with the co-star. The film is now staged at Focus Features, with Eggers directing and writing the screenplay.
Anya Taylor-Joy she was previously also assigned to star in the film, but had to retire due to scheduling conflicts. Taylor-Joy is a great actress, but I think she dodged a bullet with Harry Styles. You’re not really such a good actor, and I say that based on your performance Don’t worry honey and my experience sitting in a theater who burst into laughter at his bad acting.
In this new reinterpretation, Nosferatu is a gothic story of obsession between a bewitched young woman (Depp) in 19th century Germany and the ancient Transylvanian vampire (Skarsgard) who haunts her, bringing with him unspeakable horror. Focus did not comment on the project.
FW Murnau and the director of the original 1922, while German director Werner Herzog notably he directed his version of the classic tale in 1979. Albin Grau was the German artistic director / architect who worked on the film’s sets and costumes.
This is a passion project for Eggers and has a long history with the property. He produced a remake of it for his last year project. He also played Count Orlok in “a scene-by-scene recreation of the silent film, complete with captions and gargoyle brothers”.
As a fan of Eggers’ work, I can’t wait to see his vision of Nosferatu. the film will be produced by Jeff Robinov, John Graham, Robert Eggers, Chris Columbus And Eleonora Colombo.
