James Earl Jones has one of the most distinctive voices in film history and one of his most iconic roles was to provide the voice of Darth Vader in the Star Wars franchising. Well, after nearly 40 years of playing this character, Jones, who is 91, is retiring.
Vanity Fair also reports that the actor has transferred the rights to his voice to Lucasfilm so that they can continue to use his voice using new artificial intelligence technology. Matteo Wood of Lucasfilm said the actor “wanted to keep Vader alive”. Wood went on to say, “He said he was trying to play down this particular character. So how can we go on? “
We all know it was going to happen, Jones won’t be around forever, but with the help of AI technology, his voice will be. It’s great that Jones came to Lucasfilm to make sure his Vader voice could live on long after he was gone.
There is no way Star Wars finished telling stories with Darth Vader. I have no idea when we will see the legendary villain again, but he one day he will, and every time he does from here on out, he will sound like the Vader we’ve always known and loved.
