As announced by the Kremlin on Monday, September 5, American actors Ben Stiller (“The Secret Life of Walter Mitty”) and Sean Penn (“Death Penalty”) they will be banned from entering Russia from now on and permanently.

According to Variety, the two performers appear on the list published by the Russian government, consisting of 25 American citizens who demonstrated against the country in the wake of the war with Ukraine, openly opposing his actions. Along with the actors, the list includes Senators Kirsten Sinema, Richard Scott, Patrick Toomey Jr. and Mark Kelly, and Ministers Matthew S. Axelrod, Don Graves, Thea Kandler, Jeremy Pelter and Gina Raimondo.
An official statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs explains the action taken by the Russian Federation as follows: “In response to the Biden administration’s growing personal sanctions against Russian citizens, members of the United States Congress, high-ranking officials, trade representatives and experts are banned from entering the Russian Federation, as well as cultural figures. (25 people.) Below is a list of names of American citizens who have been placed on the Russian “detention list”, based on the principle of reciprocity”.
Penn and Miller against the war
Both Penn and Miller recently turned to political issues by showing their support for Ukraine following the invasion of Russia in February 2022. Stiller is a UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador and, under the auspices of the United Nations, last June he met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyyas well as with Ukrainian citizens who had been forced to flee the country, also visiting the occupied settlements in Kiev.
For his part, Penn shot a documentary about the invasion of Ukrainian lands, where he took the opportunity to attend public events and meet with members of the government to discuss the situation from November 2021.
