I have some great news for you all Only murders in the building fan! Paul Rudd will join Steve Martin, Martin Short, And Selena Gomez in season 3! If you haven’t seen the Season 2 finale yet, there are spoilers ahead.
Rudd made a surprise appearance in the Season 2 finale. Rudd takes on the role Ben Glenroy, the lead actor in Oliver Putnam’s Broadway comedy who falls dead on stage just as the curtain rises to signal the start of the show. Shortly before, Ben had a weird interaction with Charles-Haden Savage.
Series co-creator John Hoffman spoke about Rudd’s entry into the series, saying, “We are all his fans. But Paul also has a rather close relationship with Martin Short and has also made a film with Selena [Gomez], and she loves it. But the kicker is that Paul has revered Steve Martin ever since he was a kid, so all of these things came together for this great demand. We were saying, is there a world where a big movie star could come and do these five minutes for our season finale? But more importantly, when we get to filming for Season 3, many, many months from now, would he be available because he’s now a certain type of victim within our show? We need to have time with him; Would he return to play with us in the third season? God loves Paul Rudd because he immediately said yes ”.
Hoffman also offered some insight into the conversation Ben had with Charles-Haden before Ben fell dead on stage: “The events on stage take place after the one-year time jump, which is exciting for the show because it’s a bit It’s fun Reset. We consider season 1 and 2 as sister seasons, so for the characters it feels like they have a bit of a breather and we can reach out to them and find out what happened in that year. Only to be thrown into a new mix like this. with a new group of people around the theater and the production of Oliver’s dream show and all. It’s starting to look very exciting for a season to go to. “
He added: “But more than that, the mockery between Charles and Ben is what we’re going to reveal in Season 3. There are very specific things that Charles is saying to Ben. It is clear that there is tremendous tension between these two actors for their Broadway opening and the source of that will be revealed in Season 3. There are things that are said by Charles like “I know what you did” and “Stay away from her”. ‘All of this is a tee-up for where we will go next season. If there is one thing to cling to here it is ‘her identity’. “
I love this show and I love that Rudd is part of the cast! Season 3 is going to be a lot of fun!
