Kevin Smith reveals details of his canceled Strange Adventures episode

Last week, we reported that another title that got the ax from HBO Max was the series The Strange Adventures of DCwhich was originally given the green light for development, along with a Green Lantern-inspired show, in 2019. Writer and director Kevin Smith he was writing an episode of the anthology series with Super girl writer Eric Carrasco. Now, Smith offers more details on what the episode would entail for him.

During a recent episode of Fatman over (for ComicBook), Smith first explained that he was initially unaware of his comments Hollywood Babble-On (where he dropped the news of the scrapped show) was a big revelation, especially since he didn’t realize people knew about the show’s existence. As for the episode, Smith revealed an entire adventure that would see Jimmy Olsen and Perry White grappling with Bizzarro, as well as a dream casting for the roles, even though no contracts were signed for that casting.

“I talked about it a little Babble-On I will not do it here again, you can go and watch it Babble-On if you’re so interested, but I was about to do an episode with Jimmy Olsen, Perry White, Bizarro. As we said, Nick Cage was going to be our boyfriend. We didn’t make a deal, so I’m not saying he signed on the dotted line, that’s who we were going for. Our Perry White stood for John Goodman. “

He continued:

“Jimmy and Perry first arrived at Bizarro World, Bizarro introduced himself as Nick Cage via George Reeves Superman, so he was essentially Nick Cage in the old George Reeves costume and you know that was a lot, you know aw shucks and do the performance, you know Chris Reeve cuts early comic versions of the character and then slowly throughout the show you know how you would see this kind of perfect idealized world starts to crumble and people weren’t as happy as they showed up working for their version of the planet daily and you know this boy was like an angry baby god who would kill at will and there is slow resistance building up against their Superman and they start putting the Ss backwards everywhere and like that so in the end you know he decays completely as in the course of the show as he points out he starts transforming into what we know as Bizarre and then he kills someone and takes their blood and paints himself the S backwards on his chest because he’s the monster and then h Speak as you normally know until he starts to crumble and then he’s just like ‘me angry’. “

He went on to explain that the episode would see Bizarro chasing Jimmy and Perry into the “real” world after Bizarro World was apparently destroyed, although their battle would eventually lead Bizzarro to become the true hero he wished to be when he rescued a child in danger. He also explained that he was told he couldn’t use Superman, Lois and Clark, even though he was told they could try to sneak them in eventually. He then teased that the episode would have a post-credits moment that would see Superman – or at least his boots – reach Bizarro.

It looks like it was going to be a passion project for Smith, so it’s a shame we didn’t get to see him make it happen. You would have liked to see Kevin Smith’s Strange adventures does the vision come to life?
