John Wick franchise director Chad StahelskI am currently developing a film adaptation of the famous samurai video game Tsushima ghost. This is an incredible game and fans have been wondering what we can expect from the film adaptation. We were all hoping for something amazing, and it looks like that’s what we’re going to get!
In a recent interview with Collider, Stahelski shares his vision of the film saying the project will feature “a full Japanese cast, in Japanese”. He also plans to create an authentic Japanese experience that will be “visually stunning” and will celebrate his he “love of the country, love of people, love of language”. He explained:
“Honestly, it’s probably the same things that will scare the hell out of most people. It’s a fantasy period piece. It’s done with reverence to Akira Kurosawa, who is probably in the top five biggest influences of my life regarding the film.
“It’s an opportunity to push technology and people into a timeless story. It’s the typical mythological story of good versus evil, finding a man, watching him change the world or the world changing it. It’s all Joseph Campbell stuff that you want love in a story You put it in, of course, so I’m told I have a bit of a samurai fetish, which is probably true from Manga, anime and stuff.
“So, I think if we did it right, it would be visually stunning. It’s character driven. It has an opportunity for great action, looks good. And honestly, we should try to do it, all in character. Meaning, it’s one thing. Japanese about the Mongols invading the island of Tsushima.
He goes on to say that Sony Pictures fully supports his view of the film: “A full Japanese cast, in Japanese. Sony is so happy to support us on this. I’ve been going to Japan since I was 16.” She added:
“I have a love of the country, a love of the people, a love of the language. Trying to lead not just in my own language but someone else’s and culturally change my mindset to separate it in an interesting way that still attracts a Westerner public.”
There seems to be a good chance that Stahelski will deliver the Tsushima ghost movies we all hoped to see! I’m so excited to see how the film turns out!
