Frances O’Connor’s Directorial Debut ‘Emily’ Among 10 World Premieres in Toronto’s Platform Lineup

Toronto has announced 10 world premieres on Platform, a division of veteran filmmakers whose voices are the first to rise on the film stage.

“We launched the platform to shine a brighter light on some of the most original films and different voices at our Festival,” said TIFF CEO Cameron Bailey. “Now in its seventh year, it has become a true home for emerging international writers.”

TIFF Programming Director Anita Li hosted the platform, named after Jia Zhang-ke’s second feature film; Director, Festival Programming Robyn Citizen; and Senior Director, Festival Programming Ravi Srinivasan.

“With an eclectic vision, this year’s selection not only represents the world premiere of exciting and rising voices from around the world, but also reflects the unique and timely perspectives of diaspora filmmakers who expand the canvas.” Leeward

Of the ten titles on the platform that will premiere worldwide at TIFF and will be the opening film of the episode, Emily, Feature directorial debut artificial intelligence Y Mansfield Park Actress Frances O’Connor. 10 films from the program qualify for the US$20,000 Platform Award, awarded to the best film in the program, personally selected by an international jury. This year’s Platform Award jury will be announced at the end of the summer. Previous jurors include: Claire Dennis, Bella Tarr, Brian De Palma, Mira Nair, Riz Ahmed and Jia Zhang-ke.
