‘Stranger Things’: David Harbor thought Netflix would cancel the series after the first season

“Stranger Things” reconfirmed its title this year as one of Netflix’s biggest hits in terms of original series on the platform. Season 4, released in two volumes, monopolized the conversation for days, elevating new actors and catapulting songs from decades ago to the top of the charts. The Duffer Brothers series is already part of pop culture. But at the beginning of its story it didn’t sound so good for one of its protagonists.

‘Stranger Things’: David Harbor thought Netflix would cancel the series after the first season

David Harbor admitted in a BBC interview that he believed “Stranger Things” would not make it through the first season: “I remember when we were shooting the first season in Atlanta. Netflix gave us a budget of around $ 20. About halfway through I remember my hairdresser coming, we were shooting the fourth episode and he said, “I don’t think it’s going to work.” When we finished, I thought we wouldn’t have a second season and that we’d be the first series on Netflix not to have a second season. We thought that no one would see it, that it would be a disaster”.

As we have seen, David Harbor and his stylist were very wrong. The series has become a hit since the first seasonsweeping views, selling a ton of merchandise, and taking home five Emmy Awards for that season, plus Best Ensemble at the Screen Actors Guild Awards.

The end and after?

But while it remains one of the biggest titles in the platform’s original catalog, Matt and Ross Duffer have already announced that the series’ fifth season will be the last. There’s no release date yet, so we don’t know when we’ll have to say goodbye to Hawkins and the Upside Down. But it will be goodbye, not goodbye, because the creators have already warned that they are thinking about spin-offs to expand the universe of ‘Stranger Things’.. Of course, the idea is that they don’t focus on any of the characters we know. But the possibilities are still huge.
