As you know, Sony Pictures is developing a new film based on the character from Marvel’s Spider-Man universe Madame Webb. From what I’ve seen, there aren’t many people who are thrilled with this movie. It’s hard to get excited because without Marvel’s involvement, Sony continues to prove they don’t really know what they’re doing when it comes to these live-action movies. They would like to think they know, but they don’t.
Either way, the film is said to be the origin story of Madame Web, “a clairvoyant whose psychic abilities allow her to see into the spider world itself.” In the comics, Madame Web is an elderly blind woman named Cassandra Webb. she that she “she suffers from a chronic neuromuscular disease that makes it difficult to move and breathe and, as such, is connected to a life support system that looks like a spider’s web. The clairvoyant character has precognitive abilities and once helped Spider-Man find a kidnapping victim.
But there is also another younger version of the character named Julia Carpenter, who gains precognition powers after killing Cassandra. This is believed to be the version of the character Johnson will play, and the actress is looking to do some of her stunts as Tom Cruise.
During an interview with Vanity Fair, the writer notes that Johnson “put on some muscle” to perform as many stunts as possible. Asked about his work in the film, Johnson enthusiastically said, “I feel I can probably do some of Tom Cruise’s stuff.”
So, I guess we can expect to see Johnson throw himself into some great action sequences. I love that she’s open to doing that kind of thing! SJ Clarkson (Jessica Jones And The defenders) is directing the film from a screenplay by Matt Sazama And Burk Sharpless. They previously wrote one of the worst films of the year, Morbio.
