Austin-based cinema chain Alamo Drafthouse Cinema will open its first new English-language location in Boston early next year as part of a nationwide expansion.
Alamo Drafthouse Boston Seaport, a 767-seat, 10-screen theater, will feature the chain’s food and beverage menu and luxury seating. Located at 60 Seaport Blvd. is Seaport Square’s newest residential, dining and commercial development on South Boston’s waterfront.
The chain, which has restructured and emerged from bankruptcy deep in Covid, has been hugely successful, particularly attracting younger audiences with themed locations, bars and other assets and a mix of blockbusters, indie films, classics on a curated repertoire. and special events. As a result, the company is expanding. In early 2022, it announced seven new theaters for the next few years, including three new regional locations, in Chicago, Birmingham and St. Louis, and other locations in Washington, DC and New York. Of that group, Staten Island is next, with an opening date to be announced soon, and Chicago is currently looking at a November opening.

Alamo Drafthouse Staten Island has a kung-fu theme with nine screens and a lobby bar with a flying guillotine, a collaboration with the founder of the Wu-Tang Clan RZA (similar to The House of Wax and The Press Room bars elsewhere in New York). The public space celebrates the history of martial arts movies with memorabilia and a completely free martial arts video rental shop.
The Alamo Drafthouse in Wrigleyville Chicago has six screens, directly across from Wrigley Field.
