Kazuki Takahashi, creator of the ‘Yu-Gi-Oh!’ Manga, died at the age of 60., as reported by the Japanese television network NHK. His body was found by the coast guard near Nago on the island of Okinawa. He wore snorkeling gear. Authorities are investigating the event, but consider it an accident.

Born in Tokyo in 1961, Kazuki Takahashi started drawing very young and by the age of 19 he had already won a competition in a manga magazine. After finding many closed doors, in 1990 he published his first work, ‘Tokyo no Tsuma’. But in 1996 he made the big leap with the creation of ‘Yu-Gi-Oh!’the manga based on card battles.
Your turn!
‘Yu-Gi-Oh!’ became a real phenomenon that made the leap to the anime in 1998 at the hands of Toei, with little success. Studio Gallop retried it two years later and it was this version that made the leap out of Japan and popularized Yugi Muto’s story., which ended up leading to card games, video games, and a lot of merchandising. Takahashi finished publishing the manga in 2004, but continued to be associated with the franchise as overseeing much of its content, as well as writing the story for the 2016 film ‘Yu-Gi-Oh! The Dark Side of Dimensions’. .
With the success of “Yu-Gi-Oh!” he parked creating new stories, although he continued to post periodically on Shonen Jump. In his spare time he enjoyed playing board games, role-playing games and, of course, card games, and was a huge fan of mahjong. His favorite manga were ‘Akira’, ‘Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure’ and ‘Dragon Ball’and as for the American comics, he had a soft spot for ‘Hellboy’, also collaborating with Mike Mignola.
