On July 14, the thriller ‘Between life and death’, a co-production between Spain, Belgium and France starring Antonio de la Torre, is released in theaters. Antonio De la Torre plays Leo Castaneda, a Spaniard who works as a subway driver in Brussels. Leo had not seen his son Hugo for two years. He commits suicide and the protagonist begins to investigate why he did it and what he was up to. The answers he will find will lead him to confront his past.

“Between life and death” is written and directed by Giordano Gederlini, co-author of the acclaimed “I miserabili”. The director explains that Leo, the main character, has a part of himself: “He is in exile, which I experienced with my parents. It is likely that Leo Castaneda is linked to the figure of my father, victim of the coup in Chile and then rebuilt his life in Europe. In a film noir you need very embodied characters. Here, too, they are introspective. A charismatic actor is not enough, he must have a story, something to tell. A thriller is much more interesting if we remove the characters from the stereotypes of cops and thieves. I tried that they are not reduced to a function, that they have something to defend “.
